I am originally from Chile and have been living in California since 1998. I have been fascinated by photography for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid I loved to pick up my father's Minolta and pretend that I was a photographer, and try to capture moments with my mom, brothers and sisters.
In 2001, I began working with a dance company as a videographer, graphic designer, and light designer. I found myself growing frustrated with the quality of images I was given to use in brochures and other promotional materials, and was inspired to dive back into photography and begin shooting once again.
In November 2008 I decided to join a Flickr photography group call "Project 365." The objective is to take a self-portrait everyday for a year. I have been continually amazed by how much I have learned and grown as a photographer and how I was able to completed this project without missing a day. This project originally began as a personal challenge, but has evolved into a form of expression in which I attempt to capture the inspiring details of everyday life. I am a self-learner in everything regarding photography, I also enjoy learning about post-processing techniques involving software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and Apple’s Aperture.
Since 2000, I work as a Lighting Designer, Lighting/Sound Booth operator. He apprenticed with Mark Baker, and has since designed lighting for dance companies, such as WCB Arts foundation, Lions Pounce, Santa Monica Contemporary Ballet and many more. In 2006 Sergio served as the lighting designer for the Kybele Dance Theater at the legendary Merce Cunningham Dance Studios in New York City.
In June 2009, Sergio joined the MET family when he designed the lighting for "M-16 The Opera". Later that year Sergio went back to the MET to design the lighting for "Abe and His Coconuts".
In 2010, Sergio joined the Write Act Repertory as the lighting designer for various productions, including “Four Shadows," "Brooklyn USA," “Our Beds are Crowded,” and Michael Sadler’s “Eclectica”. In 2011, his work could be seen in the world premiere musical “Butterfly” by Michael Antin.
His most recent work was at the El Portal Theater in North Hollywood, where he designed the lighting for the Joseph Allen Decker Dance Company and their performance "Relationship REMIX." and at The Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica for Los Angeles Choreographers and Dancers “Baggage”.
