Stacks Image 174
West Coast Premiere at Write Act Repertory(Los Angeles)

A comedic musical playing to the changing times of the 1960s, featuring strong independent women as a predecessor to Mary Tyler (Moore) Richards and Rhoda Barrett (Valerie Harper). Meet our hero Sophia, a beautiful, articulate, sophisticated, bright, educated woman, whose blind spot is relationships. Her pattern is sequential frequent encounters with boyfriends, who depart after short term contact. Enlisting the help of her best friend Heather, Sophia tries therapy, with renowned expert Jake Kelly. Diagnosed with Beautiful Woman Syndrome, part of her rehabilitation is to recognize every-hit-man which has always led to a quick tryst. Sophia must learn about the forgotten majority of male society and try to focus on the invisible man, those who would never approach her, if she is to find true love. She develops the ability to handle her encounters with a non-descript forgettable man named George, who truly is the true man of her dreams.

"LA Dance Festival" - LA Dance Fest.
April 2012 at the Diavolo Space, Los Angeles CA
Stacks Image 165
With the goal of highlighting local dance, Diavolo Dance Theater and Brockus Project are co-producing a new Los Angeles Dance Festival, April 14 and 15, at the Brewery Arts Complex just east of downtown.
So far, 16 contemporary dance companies have signed up to participate, including Barak Marshall’s dance company, Oni Dance, Kybele Dance Theater and Lula Washington Dance Theatre. Deborah Brockus, artistic director of Brockus Project, said she is awaiting word from several other groups.
“What I want to do with this festival is somewhat similar to the American Dance Festival in North Carolina,” said Brockus, speaking of the annual summer event that is an international leader for dance training of college students, and for presenting and commissioning contemporary work.  For the Los Angeles Dance Festival, “the companies are all going to be doing open classes in the day, and then there are performances in the evening.”
The classes will take place in Brockus Project’s two studios at the Brewery Arts Complex on Moulton Avenue, and the performances will be at Diavolo’s studio space, also at the Brewery, which can seat as many as 150. If the Saturday performance sells out, a later second show would be added, Brockus said. She based her selection on "strong working companies that tour to different places."
The festival is geared not only for audiences but also for local dancers -- especially college students -- looking to become better acquainted with the area’s professional companies.
“What we’re really trying to do is invigorate the full community,” she said. “There are so many amazing [university] dance programs and they [the students] don’t know there are a component of companies that will hire them.”

"Viva Cristo Rey" - GK Chesterton Theater Co.

VIVA CRISTO KEY

In Mexico in the 1920's, religion was suppressed. People were forbidden to worship freely. Severe penalties, from imprisonment to death, were imposed for clandestine worship. Although the repression was widespread, the world took little notice. A veil of silence descended.

Into this turmoil entered an unassuming, guitar playing Padre. He set out to minister to his flock, going from house to house, pursued by government agents. In a very short time he would become a world wide figure. His name was Miguel Pro.

"D3linquentz" - Women Inventing Theatre II.
September 2011 at the Write Act Repertory in Hollywood, CA
Stacks Image 79
D3LiNQUENTZ
(Live Theater Performance)

The
Write Act Repertory Theater & Citizen LA are proud to present D3LiNQUENTZ: a unique one-woman comedic experience written & performed by Stefany Northcutt.

The Story The D3LiNQUENTZ dramedy centers on “four juvenile delinquents sent to a Group Home to straighten up.” Stefany, Irma, Laprell and Trinity –at risk youth destined to cross paths– have been given one last chance to get it right. Guided by House Parents, counselors, probation officers and their family, these wounded souls will spend six months driving each other crazy while facing inner demons within an intense regimented correctional program. Each must choose a path: a choice to continue down a self-destructive path destined for abuse, imprisonment and possibly death or a choice leading to personal reform and spiritual redemption.

The Message The choices that face the four adolescent main characters in D3LiNQUENTZ are real world decisions that ultimately affect us all. Regardless of our social status, our location on earth or our daily inter-personal interactions, at risk youth are an unfortunate part of our world consciousness. This story not only serves as a social commentary on our collective interaction with these delinquents, but on the juvenile justice system as a whole.

The Journey
The compelling narrative is derived from Stefany’s personal experience with the subject matter which is honest and raw while remaining transformative and uplifting. D3LiNQUENTZ delves into the often intense subject matter by offering levity and rich comedic overtones to deliver a universal message of hope.

"Waking From A Dream"
June 2011 at the Write Act Repertory in Hollywood, CA

Stacks Image 16
Waking from the Dream is a collection of four tales that delve deep into the psyche of the human experience and explore the dark places that the mind can lead us. Begin the night walking through a dreamscape of artwork by animation industry professionals. (All of the sales goes towards benefiting the Japan Relief.)  Then take your seats and be enlightened by a local entertainer. Each night will feature a different pre-show spectacle, ranging from a melting pot of performers including comedians, musicians, and even a snake dancer!

Opening the series of plays is the quirky
Velma and Manny, which features the title characters - one of whom is a stuffed doll - on a special date.  The next play, Failure to the Family, addresses the pressure Asian-Americans face from demanding parents.  It Just Happened reveals secrets from two women’s pasts, and how demons they thought they destroyed end up haunting them forever.  We then conclude the night with Japan 1946 Meets California 2010, a play inspired by true events in the playwright’s life – the struggle with dementia and the effect it has on a person’s past, present, and future.
Whether you live out your childhood fantasies, contemplate suicide because you’ve let someone down, live in regret with past demons that haunt you, or struggle to remember your loved ones... rest at ease knowing that someday you will wake from this dream.

Produced by Rochelle Perry, Anne Mesa and John Lant.

Directors: Carolyn Blais, Catch Henson, James Huang, and George Stiehl.
